Activity: Create-a-Creature, Part 1
Points: 2pts/1knut per contribution. Cap of 30pts/15knuts + Healer Bonus.
Deadline: March 19, 11:59pm UTC.
Details: Create a creature! I will post ten base images in the comments below. Your task is to add one detail to the comment to create a new creature. Any detail is fine! Each comment is worth 2pts/1 knut. You cannot reply to yourself. Try to respond to the comment right above you, but if you happen to post something just as somebody else posts their own, that's fine too. Just try not to let it go overboard. Don't forget to sign your comments either. :)

Let me know if you have any questions!

Are you sure you want to pet that? Sign the ward roster here! Check here to see if you're on the roster. Go here if your Healer Status has changed or if you have activity ideas.

The member list of hh_stmungos should be up-to-date now. If I kicked you out by mistake, I most certainly didn't mean to. Please request access again and I shall grant it asap.

Today is World AIDS Day and it’s probably one of the awareness days closest to my heart, if not to say the one which is absolutely closest to my heart. I am part of the queer community and during my time as a conference organiser (quite a few of which were HIV/AIDS conferences), I met quite a few people who were infected in the 1970s/80s when no one knew what the hell was going on, people who have seen their friends die, people who have faced and still face discrimination and are stigmatised because of their illness.

The number of new infections each year is still shockingly high 30 years later (2.7 million people worldwide in 2007; 7,298 new diagnoses in the UK in 2008; over a quarter of people with HIV in the UK are undiagnosed).
I had a bit of a look around and found a mailing list/website for bareback parties in Berlin, where in the rules they explicitly mention various STDs but never once HIV/AIDS. Unbelievable.

HIV/AIDS can be prevented and is treatable. If only knowledge, education and treatment was available to everyone who needs it. This year's motto for the World AIDS Day is "Universal Access and Human Rights". Have a look:

Spread awareness to keep the disease from spreading:

1. Wear the ribbon
for example, this one:
(please don't hotlink, thank you! :))

2. Post the video on your personal LJ, in your common rooms, wherever:

3. Please link us to other videos, information, websites that you find worth sharing. That would be much appreciated.

Care for some further reading? (a lot of it) The 2010 UNAIDS report

Want to test your knowledge on HIV/AIDS? AVERT has a quiz to test your knowledge.

On the World AIDS Day website, you will find (among many other things; be sure to have a look at the website), a list of common myths about HIV/AIDS.

Hello students of our virtual wizarding school!

Each month St. Mungo's will provide you with some information and a tip or two that deal with one health-related aspect of being a HiHer. This month we will talk about your necks and shoulders that may just be suffering a little bit from your HiH habits. Feel free to share your own tips and experiences. Also, if you have a suggestion for a topic, please leave it at the suggestions/questions post.

Read more...Collapse )

And there you have it, my dears!

Stay fit and healthy and be kind to your neck and shoulders! ♥

~ Nathan, your St Mungo's mod (who is going to do some of these excercises as soon as this is posted)

Gryffindor: 85
Hufflepuff: 21

I'm so sad about how little participation there was from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but congrats to everyone who focused long enough to answer all ten threads. Of course, speak to your doctor before shoving random plants down your throat, but some of these are common illnesses and we brewed some nifty potions! Even if they all look more or less like green sludge.

Not a ward member? Volunteer or apply here.

Our first activity is a round of the Flash game PANDEMIC II. Fun? Tes! Simple? Definitely not! Your goal is to create a pathogen and infect and kill every human on Earth. What's this doing in hh_stmungos?! Your challenge is to play as the real illness of your choice with a defined list of symptoms OR to create your own superbug. ENDS ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 @ 11 PM CDT/04:00 UTC.

Behold, a pale horse!

Game Tips
  • Your disease obviously needs to be fatal. As in, really, fantastically fatal. I'm talking organ failure here.
  • Make sure you know whether your malady of choice is caused by bacteria, a virus, or a parasite, and play accordingly. It makes a difference.
  • Play in Relaxed Mode; it's easier.
  • The key to this game is strategy and patience. ;)
  • You don't have to win, you just need to play. I'll be shocked if anyone manages to beat the game. Good luck!

To make this easier: A list of all of the symptoms available in the gameCollapse )

    Points
  • 5 points/2 knuts for choosing a REAL DISEASE and posting the signs/symptoms here. (Remember, it needs to be FATAL if you want any chance at winning!)
  • 10 points/5 knuts for playing as that disease and posting a screenshot of your score here.
  • 5 points/2 knuts for having the highest score.
  • 10 points/5 knuts for entering the Free Play round here. (You can name your disease and share its symptoms if you want to!)
Max. of 30 points/14 knuts, plus 5 points/2 knuts for Registered Healers.
